Community

As a community, "at work in the world," for the past 60 years, we have aspired to be inclusive, hospitable and welcoming. We seek to build community and strengthen relationships through spiritual growth, care, and renewal for all who are involved here. Sign up to be involved with a relational gathering, or help to create one. Join us for our intergenerational liturgical experience. Join friends after church for brunch down the street at the delightful restaurant, Adagia.

Additionally, we seek to transform the world. We agree with our friend, Professor Marcus Borg who has written:

The Bible is political as well as personal. It combines sharp political criticism and passionate political advocacy: radical criticism of systems of domination and impassioned advocacy of an alternative social vision. Protesting the nightmare of injustice, its central voices proclaim God's dream of justice, a dream for the earth. Criticism and advocacy are grounded in their understanding of the character and passion of God: a God of love and justice whose passion for our life together is the Kingdom of God.

Living out our faith invites us to be "at work in the world." At the Chapel you will find many opportunities to do this. Join the social justice team and help with our work on immigration issues, sustainability and environmental stewardship, and our partnership with the SHARE foundation and the people of San Vicente, El Salvador. Join the local support committee for the Lutheran Volunteer Corps, which sponsors eighteen volunteers at nonprofits throughout the Bay Area. Help build stronger collaborations with other Lutherans through the East Bay Lutheran Parish. Serve our homeless neighbors through our Community Meal.

There are many ways to get involved with the ministry at University Lutheran Chapel.  We hope you join one of the projects that already exists or help to start something new.
