Call Process

University Lutheran Chapel has begun the search for a new pastor, and we are following the process prescribed by the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA).

The first step in that process was to create a Ministry Site Profile (MSP), a document that describes our congregation and articulates the qualities we look for in pastoral leadership. Here is a sample Ministry Site Profile provided by the ELCA.

The Transition Team was appointed by the Chapel Council to complete the MSP. Members of the Transition Team were: Bennett Falk, Locke Schultz Jaeger, Megan McPherson, Randy Gee, Sam Tia, and Sophia Kanenwisher. Pastor Cindy Beck was assigned by the Synod to work with the team as "transition coach."

Thanks to the thorough work of the Transition Team, the Ministry Site Profile for the Chapel was finalized, approved by the council and submitted.

A Call Committee was then elected by the Congregation. Call Committee members include: Sam Kanenwisher, Michelle Mason, Margaret Moreland, Locke Schultz Jaeger, Sam Tia and Theresa Woo.

The Call Committee has decided to move forward with a second slate and initiated interviews with three new candidates for the Chapel's pastoral opening. Guided by the congregation's Ministry Site Profile and with careful thought and prayer, the Committee will conclude first round interviews within the month and meet to build consensus towards follow-up interviews. Please keep our pastoral search and the Call Committee in your prayers, and let us know if you have any questions. You can reach the Call Committee at

Check this space for future updates, which will occur at least once a month.

How To Find Us

We are located near UC Berkeley campus at the corner of College Avenue and Haste Street (a one-way street).

On public transit: Take BART to either Rockridge or Downtown Berkeley. The 51B picks up at both and stops directly in front of the Chapel.

By car: Street parking is limited in the area, but the Underhill Parking lot is just across the street and parking (fee) there is usually ample.
